Biotopes

Piece realized with the support of Fonca-Conacyt.

Multichannel acousmatic piece part of my interdisciplinary project of art, science, technology, and nature named “The transdisciplinary contemporary creation through the study and construction of native instruments from America in relation to their symbolic animals.”

Piece realized with the support of Fonca-Conacyt.

The piece is part of my interdisciplinary project of art, science, technology, and nature, based on the studies about the soundscape, symbolic animals, acoustic systems of sound artifacts from pre-Columbian cultures in Mesoamerica and the Andean region.

For the piece, were constructed 24 wind instruments of clay related to the acoustic systems of ancient American cultures, they were made by different ceramists: Adriana Martínez, Vanesa Robles, Gregorio Cortés and some of them were constructed by me.

At the same time, I realized different field recordings of symbolic animals in their natural habitat, nevertheless, their conservancy state is regrettable, they are most critically endangered or in some threatened category of their extinction.

Biotopes integrate the inner symbolism of zoomorphic sacred iconography with the current state of the conservancy of biological species, as a statement in a period of time where symbolic and ecological value is taken for granted by economic and commercial interests.
